COVID-19 Travel Information
Travel is different to how it used to be. There’s more to think about before you go, and while you're away. That’s why we are here to help you every step of the way.
Many countries are taking precautionary steps in relation to the new COVID-19 variant of concern (Omicron). Before you travel, ensure you check the latest Government travel requirements, which may include mandatory health declarations, vaccinations, COVID-19 tests, use of face masks, entry permits, pre-approval and quarantine (possibly at your own expense), or you could be denied entry.
Before every trip we will include a COVID-19 report on the destinations of your trip which highlights in detail all the latest updates on each country's travel requirements and conditions. It is important that you read the document carefully.
All these requirements are subject to change and we recommend you check the relevant government sites frequently for any updates.
Preparing to leave Australia
Every country or territory decides who can enter or leave through its borders. Being allowed to exit Australia won’t guarantee you entry at your destination. It’s your responsibility to check well ahead of time what documentation and requirements are needed for overseas travel, including
a negative COVID-19 test 24 hrs prior to departure
a valid passport
a visa
any compulsory insurance, and
proof of vaccination
Check Smartraveller advice
Check if you can travel without an exemption
Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents can leave Australia from any state or territory without seeking a travel exemption.
Temporary visa holders can depart Australia at any time. Fully vaccinated temporary visa holders across a number of categories can now travel to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption. See travel restrictions and exemptions.

Vaccination Certificate
If you were vaccinated overseas and you do not have an International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate you must obtain a certificate from the country in which you received your vaccination
Keep a hard copy or an electronic copy of your vaccination certificate. Airlines will check this when you check-in to your flight.
If you are unable to meet the proof of vaccination requirements, you will not qualify as a fully vaccinated traveller. You will need to follow the current border processes when leaving or coming to Australia.
For more information see Guidance on foreign vaccination certificates.
Complete the Australia Travel Declaration, 72 hours prior to your departure.
Pre-departure COVID-19 test
Pre-Departure COVID-19 Testing
The testing requirements, including types of acceptable tests and documentation required, are set by the countries you are travelling to and transiting through. We recommend you check the requirements of your destination country well before your travel date to ensure you comply with their test requirements and allow enough time to organise your test. We recommend using Histopath Airport as they offer express results (90min).
The Australian Government will accept proof of a negative pre-departure test through a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) taken within 24 hours before your flight’s departure time. The test must be carried out by or under the supervision of a medical practitioner who can issue you with approved test result documentation. PCR and other NAAT tests taken within 3 days of your departure will also be accepted.
